Disk read failure
This error message occurs while computer failed to read disk drive or disk controller could not locate specific sector or track on the disk drive. It can be due to the following reasons.
- Incorrect configuration settings in System Setup program (BIOS)
- Loose power cable
- Faulty or improperly connected hard drive interface cable
Solutions
- Check the BIOS setting whether it is properly configured or not
- Check the power cable connection setting
If you are not able to get your data from the above mentioned solutions
Then it is suggested to connect infected disk as secondary and use another primary disk (Healthy disk) to run Pro Data Doctor's Windows data recovery software for data recovery.

This error message occurs when basic input / output device (BIOS) does not find the boot media or when you restart your computer, you may receive error messages or system attempts to find a drive to boot the operating system, but failed. This can be due to the following reasons
- The IDE cable may not be plugged properly. Hard disk is either not connected.
- BIOS settings may not be correct for hard drive due to which operating system can not read the drive properly
- System booting from bad Removable Media.
- Your computer is infected with a boot sector virus.
- Drive translation is not being performed or was modified.
- The system cannot start up because there is no operating system loaded.
- All of bootable drives in the system are not functioning.
- No bootable active partition on it.
Solution
- If no partition is active then use FDISK to set the boot partition active.
- Check that IDE / power cable should be plugged properly. (The colored edge of the ribbon cable should be plugged on both the motherboard connector and the hard drive).
- Check the BIOS setting if properly configured.
- Make sure that no removable media should be present while booting.
